How To Get There

 

The site lies at Aujas Ghat in Ashtipura (west of Thanesar) and south of Dhirpur. Excavations at Asthipura has unearthed cremated bones of people thought to be slain in the Mahabharata war - the great epic battle fought between the Pandavas and Kauravas. It is said that Aujas Ghat was a cremation ground of martyrs of Mahabharata Sheikh Chehli Mausoleum (tomb), Sthaneshvara Mahadev Temple and many more. Yuan Chwang visit to this place in the 7th century A.D. also bears testimony to this fact.

A mound - measuring about 700 x 500 feet (213 metres by 152 metres) - with an extensive platform of unbaked bricks, and many remains of walls and fragments of terracotta (means baked earth) sculptures were discovered during the excavations.
